Benzodiazepines are extremely dangerous and addictive and I have first-hand experience with this. On the other hand they are very very useful for anxiety, somewhat useful for depression and can be great for sleep. But, think very carefully before using them on a regular basis. Later I will tell you a bit of my story and it should sway your decision if I tell it well enough.
They have a place in treatment, but sparingly

List of Benzodiazepines (Benzos)
- Valium - the best known and possibly most popular old school
- Clonazepam (Klonopin in USA) - most potent and addictive
- Temazepam - most used for sleeping help
- Rohypnol - very strong, the “date rape” drug, illegal in USA
- Lorazepam - milder modern form of benzo
- Xanax - potent short acting and addictive more of a party drug.
List of Celebrities that have died with Benzos in their system or possibly as a result of Benzos.
- Whitney Houston
- Heath Ledger
- Amy Winehouse
- Anna Nicole Smith
- Michael Jackson
- Brittany Murphy
- Chris Cornell
- Margaux Hemmingway
- Still alive is Stevie Nicks who managed to kick the habit but is scathing about its effects and the assocaited withdrawal.
You can’t get any of these drugs without a prescription, except on the black market.
Before getting into Benzos, beware, these are dangerous drugs, but if used sparingly they can help. Just to be extra sure let’s rule out Rohypnol and Xanax. These are only for the hard core or recreational user. I advise against using either of them even though I haven’t tried them. If you have ever seen the movie The Hangover, that was apparently brought on by Roofies (Rohypnol). You become very relaxed and lose your memory and control over your actions. Xanax is highly addictive and only one or two weeks of use may be enough to hook you - avoid it at all costs, there are better alternatives. By the way if you are struggling with Benzo addiction there are better places to look than here, but I will give you some guidance.
Benzos are great but also the devil
Look I really only have experience with Clonazepam but I have tried Valium for a week and Temazepam once
I have included a short section on this here because Clonazepam and Temazepam can be very useful for sleep if you are wired and anxious.
You can become addicted after only a few weeks of continuous use so be very careful and only use them when absolutely neccessary and use the lowest dose.
Personally I dont like temazepam because the sleep doesn't seem refreshing. Clonazepam works great.
Valium is so demotivating I would steer clear of it, but it's also the least addictive.
